Proof of Stake and Activity is a hybrid consensus mechanism employed in certain blockchain networks within the Web3 ecosystem. This approach combines Proof of stake (PoS) and Proof of activity (PoA) elements. Participants first demonstrate their commitment by staking a certain amount of cryptocurrency tokens. Once staked, they are required to periodically show 'activity' on the network, such as participating in transactions or validations. This combination aims to create a balanced consensus process, leveraging the security and energy efficiency of PoS while encouraging consistent network participation through PoA.
