Proof of Activity (PoA) is a hybrid consensus mechanism found in certain blockchain networks. It combines Proof of work (PoW) and Proof of stake (PoS) components. In PoA, participants first demonstrate their commitment by performing Proof of Work to mine blocks. After a block is mined, a PoS protocol takes effect, allowing the miner to stake their newly minted coins to validate transactions and secure the network. This approach aims to harness the security features of PoW while mitigating its energy consumption through PoS participation.
