Bitcoin is both a blockchain and a cryptocurrency.

History

According to Satoshi Nakamoto the writing of the code for Bitcoin began in 2007. On 18 August 2008, he or a colleague registered the domain name bitcoin.org, and created a web site at that address. On 31 October, Nakamoto published a white paper on the cryptography mailing list at metzdowd.com describing a digital cryptocurrency, titled "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System".

Firsts

The Genesis block was mined on 2009-01-03 by Satoshi Nakamoto. The transaction hash is: 4a5e1e4baab89f3a32518a88c31bc87f618f76673e2cc77ab2127b7afdeda33b

The first P2P transaction was on 2009-01-12. Nakamoto sent 10 bitcoins to Hal Finney as a test. The transaction is on block #170. The transaction hash is f4184fc596403b9d638783cf57adfe4c75c605f6356fbc91338530e9831e9e16
